Reality Check For Caroline

Jack is 7 and Caroline is 4. The kids are 2 years and 8 months apart. They are extremely close as siblings. They look after one another, play together, and both swear they are each others best friends. Jack and Caroline both worry that when they grow up they will not get to see each other very often. One night Jack was even a little bummed and when I pressed about it he began to cry. Why? because he said one day Caroline would get married and move away and he would miss her. Tuggggggg on heart strings. So you see...they are close.

The other day was a bit of a slap of reality for Caroline. There were 4 or 5 of Jacks neighborhood friends playing in the front yard. Of course Caroline was right in the middle of it all and since Jack kind of controls the group the others were fine with it.

Well one of the boys asked if the others wanted to go to his house and watch a movie. Off they ran to his house two doors down. The boys whose house it was at told Caroline she could not come because it was for boys only.

Reality Check-- Jack chose to go to watch the movie and told Caroline to go home. She was crushed! She came home crying and my wife asked her what was wrong. "BROTHA LEFT ME FOR HIS FRIENDS" For the first time Jack chose his buddies over his sister.

Caroline got over it pretty fast because she got to go to the store with her daddy. I let her hold the list and when we get an object she loves to cross it off the list with a highlighter. That and a barbie fell into our cart. When Jack got home I talked with him about what happened. I told I understood why he made the decision he did but that the NICE thing would to be not attend the movie is his sister was going to be left behind. He understood where I was coming from.
