When I turned 21 my dad took me to Vegas! It was the first of our father/son gambling bonding moments. We still talk about that trip some days. Over the years we have had many gambling trips and TONS of funny stories.
Recently I got my dad interested in Texas Holdem. He likes the game but he was not confident enough to play it in a casino with people who "knew what they were doing." Well I set up a little practice session where we looked at 10 hands face up. After about a 10 minute tutoring session he had it down! So it was decided that we would go up to Oklahoma to give our "skills" a try.
Dad played AWESOME. He folded when he needed to, played aggressive when he should have, and bluffed a couple of times to keep the other players on their toes. We both walked out of there with 150 dollars of other players money and back home we went. Successful card players.
Dad had a great time and we talked all the way home about the different hands we had and strategy. We agreed that we would go back the next week and try our luck again.
Off we went on trip two. This time we had different results. Neither he nor I go anything to play with and when we did someone always had something a little better. It was not high stakes poker by any means but both of us got kicked in the gut. We were the definition of the term BAD BEAT.
When we decided to leave dad and I walked through the casino and neither one of us said a word. We were both thinking in our minds about how we lost. We walked through the parking lot and neither one of us said a word. We got into his truck and neither one of us said a word. Then as my dad was turning onto the highway he said.....
I THINK LAST WEEK WE GOT BETTER CARDS!-------I just started laughing my guts out. I mean crying I was laughing so hard. My dad followed that up by....HEY I AM SERIOUS. The only thing I could say was...I know dad....I know.
We still talked all the way home about what happened but this time we shared...this is what I had going into the flop and would you believe he had....

Maybe I could go and film the father/son documentary.
Sounds fun.
